Monday 11am update
Sweet Esther is eating her breakfast in this video. She uses all her energy to complete a meal. She’s so weak still but we are optimistic with her good appetite , good food and excellent care from her foster and Dr Katie we will get there. Esther is so loved by so many of us we know the prayers and good thoughts are all helping. Esther goes back to see Dr Katie this afternoon and we are hopeful the labs show she’s stable or better yet improved. We paid all the donations towards her growing bill the balance before today’s visit was $339 - we know that will grow with her new expensive meds and more lab work so please is you can continue to donate every dollar goes to her care and helps !! We thank you all who have donated !! You are all blessings to Esther and all of SNAR !! Esther is such a strong girl - she’s enjoyed some extra loving with Michelle today and done well eating all she’s offered. Today we even tried some moistened kibble and she loved it! She’s showing us every day that she wants to be here. She’s ready for the fight and the future. We continue to ask for your prayers and good vibes. We know she’s got a lot of love coming from so many of you! Keep the prayers coming !!
Also, if you can our vet bill is HUGE and with going back Monday for more labs and incredibly expensive medications it’s not easy to consistently beg for donations but she’s truly worth it !

Esther is back with Michelle for the weekend to see how she does and so she can have round the clock care. Michelle is working so hard to make sure that she eats, drinks and feels all the love we all have for her ! She’ll have to go back Monday to check her bloodwork again - please pray for her and if you can please consider donating toward her continued care - current large bill and future care. Esther update Thursday 8/6 6 pm
We finally received the results we have been anxiously waiting for and they officially confirm what Dr. Katie suspected all along.
Esther tested HIGH POSITIVE for Hepatozoon americanum, a devastating tick-borne disease that causes severe inflammation, muscle pain, weakness, anemia, and an incredibly high white blood cell count. This diagnosis, along with her heartworms and Ehrlichia infection, helps explain just how critically ill she has been.
While none of us wanted this diagnosis, having answers means we know exactly what we’re fighting.
Esther has started the recommended treatment protocol and a low dose of prednisone to help reduce the overwhelming inflammation caused by this disease. Dr Katie will continue to monitor her blood work closely and adjust her treatment as needed.
There are some small reasons to be hopeful. Her white blood cell count has started to trend in the right direction, her anemia appears to be holding steady, and through everything she has endured, she still wants to eat and continues to look at everyone with those beautiful, soulful eyes that seem to say, “I’m not giving up.”
Neither are we.
The road ahead will not be easy. Recovery from this disease is measured in weeks and months, and Esther still has a long battle ahead of her. She will require continued medications, frequent blood work, follow-up care, and ongoing veterinary monitoring.
We cannot do this alone.
As many of you know, adoptions have slowed dramatically while the cost of veterinary care continues to rise. Cases like Esther’s are why rescue exists but they are also why we rely so heavily on the kindness of this incredible community.

Well we were pretty upset with Esther seemingly not being able to stabilize but our vet team decided to try some new meds as a last ditch Hail Mary - and we are cautiously optimistic she appears more alert and appetite is increased - todays labs look stable and we will repeat again tomorrow !
Please continue to pray for our sweet girl and as I’m sure you know this type of inpatient care is expensive so if you can spare anything please consider donating.

Esther Update Sunday 8/2/2026 🐾
With Esther continuing to trend in the right direction, and with the veterinary clinic being closed today (Sunday), Dr. Katie felt comfortable letting Michelle bring Esther home for the day to see how she does. We are so grateful for that opportunity.
She is still incredibly weak and can’t get up or move around on her own yet, but she does seem much more alert. She has a good appetite, which is encouraging, and we’re really hoping she’ll drink more today. Michelle had to give her subcutaneous fluids last night to help keep her hydrated.
My gosh… when I say you can see the world in Esther’s soulful eyes, I truly mean it. She has eyes that tell a story of everything she’s been through, yet somehow they’re still filled with hope. We have SO much left to show her. We want her to know what love, safety, comfort, and happiness really feel like.
Today we are praying with all our hearts that Esther has a good day and that tomorrow’s lab work shows she’s continuing to move in the right direction. We WILL not give up on Esther. She deserves every chance, and we will continue fighting right alongside her.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single person who has prayed, donated, shared her story, or simply kept Esther in your thoughts. We truly cannot do this alone… and neither can Esther.
I try REALLY hard not to ask for donations very often. Adoptions have been incredibly slow, while routine veterinary care, medications, and dog food costs have continued to climb. Yet our adoption donation has stayed the same for the last five years because we never want finances to stand in the way of a good home.
When I say that saving Esther wasn’t in the plans… I mean it.
But MAN… she is exactly why we rescue.
When we look at Esther, we see both the very worst and the very best of humanity. Someone failed her in unimaginable ways… yet because of all of you, she now has people fighting for her, loving her, and refusing to let her story end the way it almost did.
Please continue praying for Esther… and for Michelle, who is pouring her heart into caring for her. This journey is far from over, but we believe Esther is worth every ounce of the fight. Her care is not cheap but she is so worth it !!!
